The report cites an analysis of 45 food-insecure countries, where the weather pattern will significantly impact rainfall, temperatures and the occurrence of floods and droughts.<\/p>\n<p>Read:<br \/>Africa faces a R330bn El Ni\u00f1o shock<br \/>Will El Ni\u00f1o drought hit food prices in South Africa?<\/p>\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>CONTINUE READING BELOW<\/p>\n<p>Across the countries it assessed, the WFP estimates that the number of people facing acute food insecurity \u2014 families that are unable to meet their daily food needs \u2014 would rise from approximately 225 million to 274 million people.<\/p>\n<p>The weather phenomenon is expected to peak by the end of this year, bringing extreme and unpredictable weather that will threaten harvests and lower farm production, deepening food-security concerns.
