JSE-listed gaming, hospitality and entertainment group Sun International has named Vanessa Olver as incoming chief financial officer and finance director, effective 1 January 2027.<\/p>\n
Her appointment follows the resignation of long-serving executive Norman Basthdaw, who will reach normal retirement age in April 2027.<\/p>\n

In a Sens released on Thursday, Basthdaw was lauded for playing a pivotal role in shaping the group\u2019s strategic and financial trajectory.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis leadership has extended well beyond the finance function, encompassing portfolio optimisation, corporate transactions and the execution of strategic initiatives that have strengthened the group\u2019s resilience, competitiveness and long-term value creation,\u201d the group said.<\/p>\n
\u2018Smooth transition\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile Norman will relinquish his role as chief financial officer and finance director of Sun International on 1 January 2027, he will remain available to the company until April 2027 and will work closely with Vanessa to effect a smooth transition and continue supporting the board and group as appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n
It said Olver brings more than 25 years of senior finance leadership experience in listed companies, with a distinguished career marked by strong commercial impact across banking, technology and financial services.<\/p>\n
Her previous senior executive roles have included finance director at Standard Bank Africa, CFO and deputy chief executive officer at Business Connexion, and chief enablement officer for Rest of Africa at Absa group.<\/p>\n

Beyond finance leadership, Olver has also led major operating divisions and complex technology and business transformations.<\/p>\n
She currently serves on the boards of Investec Limited and Investec plc as an independent non-executive director, chairing audit and risk and capital committees, as well as the board of Quantum Change.<\/p>\n
