{"id":15229,"date":"2026-09-03T18:10:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T18:10:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stock999.top\/?p=15229"},"modified":"2026-09-03T18:10:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T18:10:08","slug":"bank-economist-tells-scots-leaders-why-rates-must-rise-daily-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stock999.top\/?p=15229","title":{"rendered":"Bank economist tells Scots leaders why rates must rise \u2013 Daily Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <\/p>\n<p>Huw Pill: we cannot afford to wait<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Interest rates\u00a0will need to rise quickly to head off the threat of inflation, according to the Bank of England\u2019s chief economist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Huw Pill\u00a0told an audience in Edinburgh that ther were \u201cdangers\u201d in waiting for firmer evidence of the impact of conflict in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Pill has voted for an interest rate rise, but was just one of just two members of the nine-member\u00a0Monetary Policy Committee\u00a0(MPC) who backed such a rise from 3.75% to 4% at the July meeting. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">With hostilities resuming and oil prices once again rising, Mr Pill said: \u201cIn my view, in this environment we cannot wait for uncertainties to resolve themselves before acting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">He argued that \u201cclear, prompt and decisive policy action and communication would help steer markets, reduce uncertainty\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">He added: \u201cIt is now six months since the onset of conflict in the Middle East.
