The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued an urgent safety recall for Made for Tots Corn Puffs Chicken (12g). The supplier, Clicks, notified the commission after a specific batch of the product tested positive for bacterial contamination.<\/p>\n
Contamination details<\/p>\n
The recall was initiated after the affected batch tested positive for non-pathogenic listeria. According to Clicks, while this specific type of listeria is generally non-pathogenic to humans, there have been rare and isolated reports of human disease associated with it.<\/p>\n
The recall involves a total of 1 152 units. Clicks confirmed that while 804 units were successfully intercepted and removed from retail shelves, approximately 348 units have already been sold to consumers. The products were sold through Clicks stores across South Africa, Clicks Online, and were also distributed to Lesotho.<\/p>\n

Consumers in possession of the affected puffs are instructed not to consume the product. Instead, items should be returned to any Clicks store for a full refund or a replacement. The NCC noted that a refund will be provided with or without any proof of purchase.<\/p>\n

Acting commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu highlighted that the recall coincides with World Consumer Rights Day, observed on 15 March under the theme \u201cSafe Products. Confident Consumers\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe remind suppliers of their obligation to provide goods of good quality, free of defects, usable and durable,\u201d said Ratshisusu. \u201cWhere goods fail to meet the required standards, those goods must be removed from the shelves to minimise potential harm\u201d.<\/p>\n
The NCC is currently monitoring the recall to ensure the supplier remains in full compliance with the Consumer Protection Act.<\/p>\n
