Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang dismissed the need for new artificial intelligence security regulations on Tuesday, arguing that market forces will help companies safely innovate.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t need new laws \u2014 we don\u2019t need new regulations,\u201d Huang said during a Salesforce event. The CEO added that there\u2019s a \u201cfalse choice\u201d about AI development being either safe or fast, reiterating a point he\u2019s made previously.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can definitely have both at the same time,\u201d he said during a conversation with Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. \u201cYou pace yourself until you\u2019re confident you\u2019re releasing something that the market would appreciate. The market forces are already there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Huang has added his voice to a polarising discussion about how to manage AI risks. Though leaders from Anthropic PBC and other major labs have discussed an orchestrated slowdown of tech development, other leaders have called for alternative approaches.<\/p>\n
Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Tuesday that labs should rely on independent evaluators and advisers to ensure that AI models are safe.<\/p>\n
Huang\u2019s company is the biggest maker of artificial intelligence accelerators \u2014 the chips at the heart of a massive data center build-out \u2014 and he\u2019s one of the most prominent advocates for the broader AI industry. At an event earlier this week, he held an onstage phone call with President Donald Trump where they pushed back against the idea that AI development should be slowed.<\/p>\n
The debate has grown more intense in recent days, especially after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published a 3,800-word essay endorsing the slowdown. That followed the high-profile resignation of an Anthropic employee, who said the company and rival OpenAI were \u201cgambling with our lives\u201d because their technology could become a threat to humanity.<\/p>\n
Huang said Tuesday that companies can decide not to release things that are harmful.<\/p>\n
\u201cSafety is paramount,\u201d he said. \u201cIn a lot of ways, it\u2019s job one. However, safety is an engineering problem.\u201d<\/p>\n
If we reach a point when \u201cthe company is out of control and the product\u2019s not going to be safe, take a pause and make sure you get it right,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
