Happy Monday. Stock futures were falling as oil prices climbed amid renewed tensions between the U.S. and Iran.<\/p>\n
One day after rejecting an Iranian proposal to end the war, President Donald Trump told Axios in a phone interview Sunday that he expects U.S. negotiators to engage in more talks with Iran this week.<\/p>\n
“Geopolitical risk will define the start of the new trading week after a stall in diplomatic progress between the U.S. and Iran over the weekend,” said Kyle Rodda, senior financial market analyst at Capital.com.<\/p>\n
“Although with some crude trickling out of the Persian Gulf as Iran struggles to maintain control of the Strait — potentially a reason why President Trump is less amenable to striking any sort of a deal with the Iranians — the markets are pricing in a less acute supply shock than at the start of the war.”<\/p>\n
Stocks closed higher Friday, driven by a cooldown in oil prices and easing Treasury yields that relieved pressure on Wall Street.<\/p>\n
“The markets rounded out the week on a cautiously positive note, supported by a dip in oil prices that took some of the heat out of inflation fears and upside risks to interest rates,” Rodda said.<\/p>\n
“Wall Street remains within touching distance of record highs, supported by tech stocks, although the rise on Friday was driven by a boost in energy-sensitive, cyclical sectors.”<\/p>\n
He noted that strong corporate fundamentals, along with some signs of a pickup in economic activity in the U.S., are supporting the market.<\/p>\n
“That’s proven enough to offset some of the lingering uncertainty from geopolitical risk in the Middle East and global interest rate uncertainty,” Rodda said.<\/p>\n
Separately, Nvidia (NVDA) on Monday released two new open-source tools, OpenShell and Nvidia Sentry, designed to help control rogue AI agents.<\/p>\n
