In September, interest rates were raised by 25 basis points in both South Africa and the US.

ADVERTISEMENT:

Goldman Sachs has pushed back its forecast for the next US rate increase from October to December and expects two hikes in total for the remainder of 2026.

Read:

Sarb ups repo rate to 7.25%
Kganyago sees significant slowdown in South African CPI in 2027
The oil shock is real, but SA’s inflation trajectory hasn’t changed

On the South African side, Bank of America has a more hawkish outlook, expecting two rate increases – one in September and another in November – taking the repo rate to a peak of 7.5%.

When US interest rates rise, investors can earn more by putting their money in US investments.
