Unfortunately, because she’s a T-Mobile subscriber, she was not able to do that, as her wireless carrier has to handle the transition.

She solved the problem by driving to a T-Mobile store where an employee handled everything for her.

I told her she could have done that over the phone, which illustrates the challenge T-Mobile faces as it closes brick-and-mortar locations in favor of digital and call center support.

T-Mobile is closing stores

Stores are expensive, and while companies rarely frame eliminating them purely as a cost-saving measure, there’s certainly an advantage to routing customers through websites, call centers, and artificial intelligence (AI) helpers.

T-Mobile has decided to cut stores, and the company framed that as a positive in a 10-Q filed with the SEC that covered the period ending June 30.

Shedding stores aligns with the company’s “ongoing digital initiatives to simplify routine transactions, as well as enhance customer experiences by transitioning in part to large-format experience stores,” it shared.

More T-Mobile:

T-Mobile CEO doubles down on reducing free offers for customers

T-Mobile customers face new restriction when paying bills

T-Mobile stands to gain as another key rival retreats from retail

T-Mobile has not shared a list of stores it plans to close. The company is also ending certain deals with partners that operate T-Mobile stores, and those relationships are generally not reported on in earnings reports or SEC filings.

“We began closing certain dealer and corporate-owned stores in the second quarter of 2026. The major costs associated with these retail initiatives include contract termination, severance, and costs associated with terminated operating leases,” it added in the filing.

T-Mobile is phasing out some stores.

Around the World Photos/Shutterstock.com

Here are some of the T-Mobile stores that are closing

T-Mobile filed a notice in Washington that listed the stores that will close, or have closed, in that state.

1216 N 45th St., Seattle 98103

1315 West Bakerview Rd. 106, Bellingham 98226

22309 30th Dr. SE, Bothell 98021

305 SE Chkalov Dr. Ste. 101, Vancouver 98683

1220 N Columbia Center Blvd., Kennewick 99336

3802 Pacific Ave. Ste. 103, Tacoma 98418

“As of October 3, 2026, Store Closure Watch has tracked 21 T-Mobile closure-related events across the U.S., including 19 recorded store closures and 11 with a WARN notice,” according to Four Lights Analytics Store Closure Watch.

Four Lights Analytics shared its methodology for identifying closures.

“T-Mobile listed about 5,625 store pages on its own site in September 2026. We check that list weekly. When a store page is missing from two consecutive checks, we test the page directly, and we drop the candidate if it is still serving a live store listing. Most records in the file come from news reports, WARN notices, and court filings, not from this check,” it shared.

T-Mobile is changing its stores

T-Mobile CEO Srinivasan Gopalan wants the company’s T-Life app to be the center of its customer experience, but he’s not giving up on stores.

“Our other key differentiator is our customer experience. T‑Life is continuing to drive digital interactions, with about 25 million monthly active users engaging with the app multiple times a month. T‑Life will also serve as the unified platform to support growth into considered adjacencies like financial services and advertising,” he said.

The company, Gopalan noted, will have fewer stores, but the ones it retains will be larger “experience stores.”

“In retail, we are well underway in our journey towards more experience stores, with several hundred already up and running,” he added.

Gopalan wants the company to make more impact with fewer physical locations.

“Over time, our mix shift will lead to fewer doors but also more meaningful customer experiences,” he added.

A T-Mobile partner prepares for cuts

“Cellphone retailer Wireless Vision is working with turnaround consultancy Alvarez & Marsal as its partner T-Mobile scales back its retail presence, said two sources familiar with the matter,” Ion Analytics reported.

Wireless Vision is an authorized T-Mobile dealer that operates brick-and-mortar stores.

“The wireless telecom giant this summer disclosed it was taking a $108 million restructuring charge in connection with a plan to shut down some of its dealer and corporate-owned stores in order to focus on what it calls large-format experience stores. The move may leave retailers like Wireless Vision in a lurch since their businesses revolve around T-Mobile, said the first source,” Ion Analytics added.

T-Mobile does not have to report when it ends it relationship with retail partners, even if that leads to store closures. The company generally only reports when it’s closing T-Mobile-owned stores.

In a January 2025 analysis, Morningstar remained bullish on T-Mobile’s broader business prospects.

“T-Mobile’s brand and reputation, coupled with its strong network and spectrum position, should enable the company to continue gaining market share. We also expect a rational competitive landscape will allow the firm and its rivals to steadily, if modestly, increase prices — even if T-Mobile management insists on calling these ‘optimizations.’ This environment should support profitability and expanding cash flow,” the analyst shared on its website.

ALSO READ: Costco’s weight loss drugs come with a catch

#TMobile #promises #customer #service #stores #close

T-Mobile thinks it can serve customers better even as it shrinks its retail store footprint….

[259
1419,1671,3044,80,1726,652
