Some of Old Mutual\u2019s clients have had their mobile data and email addresses exposed through an error in a service provider\u2019s systems.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The financial service provider sent messages to some clients as a precaution noting, \u201cAt this stage, there is no indication of any unauthorised use of this information. Your policy, benefits and accounts remain secure and unaffected.\u201d<\/p>\n
It warned clients not to share PIN, password, or one-time passwords.<\/p>\n
In a statement, it said, \u201cOld Mutual can confirm that an incident involving one of its service providers may have resulted in certain customers\u2019 personal information potentially being affected.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cImportantly, this was not a cyberattack. The incident resulted from a configuration error within the service provider\u2019s systems, which meant that certain files may have been accessible without the intended security controls. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no evidence of hacking, malware, unauthorised system intrusion or attempts to bypass security measures.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe personal information involved was limited to certain data fields, comprising either a mobile number, an email address, or a combination of both. Some records contained only free-text responses and did not contain personal information relating to identifiable individuals. <\/p>\n
