Retail group Clicks grew profits by 2.6% to R3.33 billion in the year ended August 2026, a period marked by intense competition as retailers offered aggressive promotions and discounts to attract consumer spending. Profit after tax in the previous year was R3.23 billion.<\/p>\n
For the first time, Clicks\u2019s turnover exceeded the R50 billion mark, growing 5.4% compared with the prior year, even as consumer spending remained constrained.<\/p>\n
In reality, Clicks sold only slightly more goods than last year. Sales in comparable stores rose 1.8%, but prices rose 1.5%, so real growth was just 0.3%. Price increases also slowed sharply, from 2.3% to 1.2% in the second half, suggesting shoppers are cautious and that Clicks is relying on promotions rather than on strong consumer demand for goods.<\/p>\n

Despite the challenging economic and consumer environment, Clicks reported an increase in its profit margin to 11%, up from 10.8%. This means Clicks is earning more profit from each rand of sales, even though sales grew only slightly. In other words, the margin gain means the group now keeps R11 in trading profit per R100 of sales, up from R10.80 previously.<\/p>\n

Clicks continues to offer discounts and promotions through its Clicks ClubCard programme, which has 13.1 million members. ClubCard members accounted for 84.2% of sales during the reporting period and received R976 million in cashback rewards.<\/p>\n

The retailer said the programme was enhanced with an additional 10% discount on 3 000 products, a joint campaign with Engen and FNB to help members mitigate rising fuel costs, and the introduction of Standard Bank and Absa as additional affinity partners.<\/p>\n
During the reporting period, Clicks opened 41 stores and 60 pharmacies, and increased its retail pharmacy market share to 24.7% from 24.1% in the prior year. This expanded the retailer\u2019s footprint to 1 110 stores and 840 pharmacies. Clicks plans to open between 40 and 50 new stores in the 2027 financial year and remains committed to its medium-term target of 1 200 stores.<\/p>\n
The Clicks board has approved a final gross ordinary dividend of 667 cents per share for the period ended 31 August 2026, up from 648 cents per share in 2025 \u2013 an increase of 2.9%.<\/p>\n
