The US attacked Iran\u2019s Qeshm Island at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, part of a weeks-long campaign of smaller-scale strikes, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing American officials. State-run Islamic Republic News Agency reported five explosions on the island.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The plunge on Monday came after global benchmark Brent rallied almost 14% in October, hitting a six-month high, on concerns about renewed hostilities between the US and Iran, despite a revival in exports from the Persian Gulf.<\/p>\n

Still, the scope for a diplomatic breakthrough is unclear. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian did not specify the extent of the authority granted by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei or whether it signals a broader shift in the country\u2019s red lines in indirect negotiations with the US. His remarks were cited by IRNA.<\/p>\n
Major differences between the two sides remain. Tehran wants a US naval blockade of its ports lifted, sanctions eased and frozen assets released before fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz to maritime shipping. Washington is demanding concessions related to Iran\u2019s nuclear program.<\/p>\n
