Sandy Begbie has announced his intention to step down as chief executive of Scottish Financial Enterprise by next summer\u2019s AGM.<\/p>\n
Mr Begbie was appointed CEO of the financial services trade body in October 2020, following a career which included senior roles at Tesco Bank, Aegon, Standard Life, Scottish Power and Royal Bank of Scotland.<\/p>\n
SFE has just marked its 40th anniversary, having been set up ahead of deregulation, known as Big Bang, of the financial markets.<\/p>\n
He has led SFE through a period of significant growth, including delivery of Scotland\u2019s Global Investment Summit last October.<\/p>\n
He said the decision to step down had not been an easy one, but he felt it was the time bring in some new blood with new ideas. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been an honour and a privilege to be CEO of Scottish Financial Enterprise for over six years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was asked by the board to lead the organisation into its next stage of development, modernise the way it operated and ensure SFE became one of the most influential trade bodies in Scotland and I am personally delighted with what we have delivered over the last six years.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy decision has not been taken lightly but I feel, after what will be almost seven years, that it is time to pass over the opportunity to someone new, who can bring a fresh perspective and take SFE forward into its next stage of development.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will always look back and consider my time at SFE as a highlight in my career and I look forward to watching the organisation continuing to go from strength to strength.\u201d<\/p>\n
SFE chair Sue Dawe said: \u201cSandy has been central to the success of SFE over the past six years, both in leading our organisation and in championing our industry with government, in the media and overseas.<\/p>\n
\u201cPersonally, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Sandy during my time as chair and am very grateful for all he has done.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe board has a well-established governance and succession process in place, and a search for Sandy\u2019s successor is now underway. <\/p>\n
\u201cIn the meantime, Sandy and the board remain fully focused on delivering our strategy, with Sandy continuing to oversee the delivery of our major events in the first half of next year.\u201d<\/p>\n
