Now he’s suing Scott Jennings for $72.5 million

Hasan Piker was the Republican Party’s favorite heel during the 2026 midterm cycle. The socialist Twitch streamer’s face anchored attack ads in Michigan’s Senate race and beyond; his shirtless selfie graced the jumbotron at the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention in Dallas; President Trump called him a “terrible liability” for Democrats.

But on election night, Piker got his revenge.

Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress, flipping seven Senate seats, including longtime Republican strongholds in Kansas, South Carolina, and Texas. Candidates closely tied to Piker also won, including Michigan Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed, who defeated Republican Mike Rogers despite GOP efforts to tie him to the controversial streamer.

Piker’s 13-hour election-night stream drew more than 200,000 concurrent viewers and logged 1.75 million hours watched, second only to NBC News among all election-night livestreams, according to Streams Charts. His channel alone accounted for nearly two-thirds of election-night viewing on Twitch, the streaming platform owned by Amazon, No. 1 on the 2026 Fortune 500.

Meanwhile, he’s been gearing up for a multimillion-dollar legal fight.

The $72.5 million suit against Scott Jennings

Piker sued conservative commentator and CNN contributor Scott Jennings for defamation on Oct. 27 in federal court in Washington, D.C., accusing Jennings of falsely telling his audience that Piker advocated for lynchings. The suit seeks $27.5 million in compensatory damages and $45 million in punitive damages.

The dispute goes back to Aug. 11. On that episode of The Scott Jennings Show, produced by Salem Media, Jennings aired a 42-second montage of Piker that, according to the complaint, was spliced together from three separate Twitch broadcasts.

The key clip came from an October 2024 stream in which Piker reacted to a YouTube debate between two Black political commentators and sarcastically mocked the conservative participant’s argument. A Snopes review of the unedited footage found that Piker was mimicking other people’s views, not stating his own.

Piker’s attorney, defamation lawyer Daniel Watkins, sent Jennings a retraction demand on Aug. 31. According to the complaint, Jennings’ lawyers acknowledged the letter, but no retraction followed. Jennings has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.

The case faces a high bar. As a public figure, Piker must show actual malice, meaning Jennings knew his claims were false or recklessly disregarded the truth. The complaint argues the damage was commercial as well as personal, citing harm to Piker’s relationships with viewers, sponsors, and business partners.

‘Buckle up’: more suits may follow

Piker, who has described himself as “very deliberately anti-litigation for a very long time,” told Vanity Fair that something shifted during this election cycle when “people like Scott Jennings, and there are others as well, started trafficking in outright lies, defamation, and slander.”

He cited what he described as a pattern of outlets circulating clips that gloss over key context and alter the meaning of his statements.

Watkins told Vanity Fair that Piker is “just getting started,” and that other targets should expect outreach from his firm in the coming days. Asked specifically about Sen. Ted Cruz, who reshared Jennings’ clip on X, Watkins responded: “Buckle up.” Piker also noted that former RNC chair Ronna McDaniel repeated the lynching claim on C-SPAN in late October.

The boogeyman who wouldn’t back down

The lawsuit lands at a moment Piker sees as vindication. Throughout the midterms, Republicans tried to make him a central boogeyman in their electoral strategy, a bet that seemingly paid off little as Democrats won historic victories.

“Many of you have been here with me this entire time,” Piker told his audience on election night, his voice thick with emotion. “So you know the metric ton of [stuff] I had to eat for the last year and a half, especially how bad it got after Abdul [El-Sayed] won the primaries.”

He continued: “They thought that they could make me the…central figure as a part of their midterm strategy, the Republican Party. And it was such a spectacular failure.”

Piker said he had expected the attacks to damage his reputation, but not to backfire on Republicans at the ballot box. “My speculation—my expectation—was that making me into this toxic figure by spending tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions of dollars, in attack ads, was not going to do anything to the candidates. It was only just going to burn my reputation,” he said. “I was going to get inundated with death threats, which I did.”

“But I never thought that this would be electorally sound,” he added. “To think it is one thing, but to see it in action.”

#Republicans #Hasan #Piker #midterm #villain #hes #suing #Scott #Jennings #million

Hasan Piker was the Republican Party’s favorite heel during the 2026 midterm cycle.
