Gill Baird: back on a strong financial footing<\/p>\n
Cosmedicare, the private healthcare provider, is set to post record profits after refocusing the business amid the rise in weight-loss medications.<\/p>\n
This led to a \u00a31.2m drop in bariatric surgery revenue last year and forced the cosmetic surgery company to refocus on higher-margin plastic and reconstructive procedures.<\/p>\n
It is forecasting \u00a31.4 million profit for the year to the end of March on a rise in turnover to \u00a36m, up from \u00a34.7m last year. <\/p>\n
The UK\u2019s only independent female founded hospital company was established ten years ago by Gill Baird has seen a shift towards the private healthcare market. <\/p>\n
A 10,000 sq ft two-storey extension at St Ellen\u2019s Hospital on the Kirkton Campus, which has been approved by West Lothian Council, is designed to increase surgical capacity and support the delivery of more complex procedures.<\/p>\n
Ms Baird has led a full operational restructure, renegotiating supplier contracts, improving theatre utilisation and repositioning the company\u2019s clinical offering.<\/p>\n
As a result, Cosmedicare has delivered an 8% increase in gross profit margins, equivalent to approximately \u00a3400,000, alongside improved efficiency and stronger patient conversion.<\/p>\n
Ms Baird said: \u201cReaching ten years in business is a huge moment for us, but what matters more is how we\u2019ve got here. The last year has been one of the most challenging we\u2019ve faced, but it\u2019s also been the most important in shaping the future of Cosmedicare.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe made some difficult decisions, refocused the business and doubled down on what we do best \u2013 safe, consultant-led surgery with strong clinical governance. <\/p>\n
\u201cThat clarity has put us back on a strong financial footing and given us confidence to invest in the next phase of growth.\u201d<\/p>\n
The expansion of St Ellen\u2019s Hospital reflects growing demand for private healthcare services, particularly as NHS waiting lists remain under pressure. Cosmedicare has responded with initiatives including a dedicated NHS waiting list programme, offering faster access to surgery.<\/p>\n
The business employs 31 staff across its Livingston and Glasgow hospitals and delivers a range of services including cosmetic, reconstructive and gender-affirming surgery, orthopaedics and private GP care.<\/p>\n
The Livingston expansion will support increased surgical capacity and is expected to play a key role in the company\u2019s longer-term ambition to develop additional specialist services, including orthopaedics and longer-stay procedures.<\/p>\n
Ms Baird, added: \u201cThis next phase is about scaling responsibly. We\u2019re not chasing growth for the sake of it, we\u2019re building capacity in areas where there is real patient need and where we can maintain the highest standards of care.<\/p>\n
