The Tshwane city council has set in motion a disciplinary process against the metro\u2019s chief financial officer (CFO) Gareth Mnisi after damning allegations made during proceedings at the Madlanga Commission.<\/p>\n
The commission is probing possible criminality, political interference and corruption in the country\u2019s criminal justice system.<\/p>\n
Mnisi\u2019s name was thrust into the spotlight when evidence at the commission implicated him and others in alleged tender rigging, again raising questions about gaps in the procurement processes across the board.<\/p>\n

Following a city council meeting on Thursday, Tshwane mayor Nasiphi Moya has confirmed the decision to give Mnisi seven days to make written representations on why he should not be placed on precautionary suspension.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil will consider these representations before making a final determination,\u201d says Moya.<\/p>\n
An independent investigator will be appointed to investigate the allegations of potential misconduct.<\/p>\n
\u201cGiven the central role of the chief financial officer in safeguarding the city\u2019s financial systems, it is essential that these matters are handled in a manner that protects both the integrity of the institution and the credibility of the process,\u201d Moya adds.<\/p>\n

Mnisi is expected to remain on leave while the city probes his conduct, a precautionary measure the mayor says has been taken to allow for a fair, thorough, and uninterrupted process.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt does not constitute a finding of wrongdoing,\u201d Moya reiterates.<\/p>\n
Moneyweb has confirmed that the city\u2019s head of budget, Nthabiseng Mokete, will step in for now while the matter is being dealt with.<\/p>\n
