Scottish Labour has accused the SNP of \u201cgrubby and cynical\u201d tactics over its claim that independence would cut electricity bills by over a third.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Numerous sources have questioned the claims which have formed a central message in the SNP\u2019s \u201cIt\u2019s Scotland\u2019s Energy\u201d campaign.<\/p>\n
Ahead of an independence rally in Edinburgh, SNP leader John Swinney said independence would create \u201ca country with lower energy bills.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stephen Flynn, the SNP\u2019s Westminster Leader, last night said: \u201cIn six weeks\u2019 time Scottish voters will face a straight choice \u2013 a permanent cost-of-living crisis under Westminster or lower energy bills with independence\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith independence and full control over our energy resources, we can bring energy bills down. That only comes with the fresh start of independence \u2013 and that is what only the SNP can offer to the people of Scotland at this election.\u201d<\/p>\n
Scottish Labour said SNP ministers have repeatedly struggled to explain the working behind the claim and accused the party of \u201cexploiting people\u2019s anxieties\u201d and \u201cpeddling lies\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Daniel Johnson, Scottish Labour Economy spokesperson, said\u00a0\u201cIt is shameful that the SNP is trying to exploit people\u2019s anxieties and offer false hope with its made-up pledge.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe SNP has failed to provide any evidence for this dodgy claims and Scots will see right through these grubby and cynical tactics.<\/p>\n
\u201cJohn Swinney should tell us once and for all whether he stands by this claim.\u201d<\/p>\n
