Bookings\u00a0are\u00a0now\u00a0open\u00a0for The\u202fKithmore, St Andrews\u2019\u202fnew luxury boutique hotel\u202fopening its doors this June following a \u00a37.5 million transformation of the former Ardgowan Hotel. Set across three elegant Georgian townhouses, designed by renowned local architect George Rae, it is close to The Royal and Ancient Golf Club and the iconic Old Course.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Kithmore is part of\u202fthe Marram\u202fCollection, which includes the boutique hotel The Leddie in Aberlady, East Lothian and The\u202fBushmills Inn in Northern Ireland. <\/p>\n
The owners have sympathetically\u00a0restored its many original features, while an extension has increased capacity to 44 bedrooms. They have installed bespoke furniture and furnishings, customised joinery, oak timber flooring, plush\u00a0rugs\u00a0and an original frieze design features. The artwork throughout has been curated to add character to each individual space showcasing local artists.<\/p>\n
All ensuite bathrooms feature Italian stone porcelain tiles -\u202fCeppo\u202fdi Sabbia\u202f-\u202finspired by Italian terrazzo, which complement glazed ceramic wall tiles.\u202fCrafted\u202ffree-standing vanity units with under-mounted basins and luxury\u202fstate-of-the-art\u202f German brand\u202fAXOR and\u202f Hansgrohe \u202fbrushed black brassware and dual-head rainfall showers\u202falso feature.\u202f<\/p>\n
The reinstatement of historic planters\u202fwill\u00a0enhance\u202fboth privacy and the streetscape with a subtle illuminated central entrance staircase set back from the street.\u202f\u202f<\/p>\n
Guests arrive at a reception area\u202ffeaturing\u202fherringbone timber flooring layered with plush rugs, lounge seating, original\u202fart\u202fand a bespoke red marble reception desk that anchors the lobby. Hand-painted signage by a local signwriter\u202fThomas Payne of Thomas Paints guides guests through the property.<\/p>\n
A key aspect of The\u202fKithmore\u2019s\u202fappeal will be its standalone\u00a0bar and restaurant, which\u202fis accessed by its\u202fown street-level entrance and extended landscaped terrace. The interiors feature\u202fcosy snugs with comfortable banquette seating,\u202fenclosed by timber panelling and leaded glazed screens.\u202f<\/p>\n
Lighting and artwork have been considered to create an atmosphere that feels refined yet homely, lifted from the building\u2019s heritage but unmistakably contemporary. Climbing honeysuckle, planters with native flowers and grasses, feature yew trees,\u00a0wall\u202flighting\u202fand\u202fuplighters create an inviting social Terrace setting that feels both sheltered yet connected to the street.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
The aim has been to create a space\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0social and inclusive with a view to becoming the new go-to venue on Playfair Terrace for both visitors, students, golfers, tourists, and the local community. <\/p>\n
Recruitment\u202ffor key management positions is\u202fnow underway,\u202fwith further recruitment for front line roles closer to the opening in June.\u202f<\/p>\n
