Tata Africa Holdings and Tata Motors have rolled out their 12 000th locally assembled commercial vehicle in South Africa, underscoring ongoing investment in domestic manufacturing capacity.<\/p>\n
The milestone was reached at the company\u2019s assembly facility in Rosslyn, north of Pretoria, where commercial vehicles have been produced since 2011.<\/p>\n

The companies said the rollout reflects continued efforts to localise production and strengthen South Africa\u2019s automotive value chain, particularly in the commercial vehicle segment.<\/p>\n
The Rosslyn plant, which spans about 35 000 m\u00b2, has an installed capacity of more than 2 200 vehicles a year, with scope to scale output in line with demand.<\/p>\n
It assembles multiple models, including the Ultra, Prima and LPT ranges.<\/p>\n

The 12 000th vehicle, a Tata Ultra T.14 was handed over to logistics firm RAM Couriers as part of a broader fleet agreement, highlighting demand from the transport and delivery sector.<\/p>\n

Local assembly has become an increasingly important part of South Africa\u2019s industrial strategy, with manufacturers seeking to reduce import dependence while supporting employment and supplier development.<\/p>\n

Tata Africa managing director Jacques Taylor said the milestone reflects sustained investment in local capability and skills development.<\/p>\n
\u201cFacilities like these demonstrate how sustained investment in local capability, skills development and operational excellence can create meaningful impact within the industries and communities we serve,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The company said it continues to expand its dealer network and aftersales support, alongside efforts to improve parts availability and service capacity for fleet operators.<\/p>\n
The milestone comes as manufacturers position themselves to benefit from growing demand in logistics and transport, driven by e-commerce and supply chain expansion.<\/p>\n
