Cape Town has been named the second global technology hub for UK-based fintech company ClearScore Group, as the credit marketplace platform grows its footprint in South Africa.<\/p>\n
ClearScore, which helps consumers check their credit scores and access financial products, says its new local headquarters on Loop Street in the Cape Town CBD will support global engineering, product management and data analytics functions, alongside commercial and marketing operations for the South African market.<\/p>\n

It expects to grow its local team to about 120 employees over the next 12 to 18 months.<\/p>\n
The move builds on ClearScore\u2019s presence in South Africa since 2017, when it opened its first office outside the UK in Cape Town. The company has since established itself as the market leader in the local credit marketplace, reaching 6.6 million South African users in February 2026 and targeting more than 7.5 million by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

ClearScore says it currently facilitates more than 45 000 credit sales per month in South Africa, representing growth of 70% year on year.<\/p>\n
Co-founder and CEO Justin Basini notes that Cape Town has played a central role in the company\u2019s growth and would now support future technology development, including artificial intelligence capabilities and broader platform expansion.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe depth of engineering, product and design talent in the city makes it the right place to build,\u201d adds Basani.<\/p>\n
Wesgro CEO Wrenelle Stander believes the expansion signals that globally relevant technology can be built in the Western Cape, while Premier Alan Winde points to the province\u2019s skills base and business environment as key attractions for long-term investment.<\/p>\n
\u201cCompanies need places where they can grow with confidence, and people want places where they can build careers and quality lives. That combination is increasingly what makes the Western Cape competitive,\u201d says Winde.<\/p>\n
