Jimmy Wales will address DataFest in Edinburgh<\/p>\n
Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales will be the headline speaker at a gathering in Edinburgh of some of the world\u2019s foremost experts in artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n
Wales is also the founder of TrustCafe.io, a news platform, and co-founder of Fandom, a privately-owned free web hosting service.<\/p>\n
The DataFest conference on 27 and 28 May is under the theme \u201cintelligent futures\u201d \u2013 exploring how data and AI are transforming the systems, industries, and societies of tomorrow.<\/p>\n
Sessions will address some of the most \u201cvital questions\u201d in today\u2019s technology landscape, including trustworthy and responsible\u00a0AI, regulation and governance, AI cybersecurity and resilience, the future of skills and work, and autonomous and multi-agent systems.<\/p>\n
The event, at the Assembly Rooms,. will also examine Scotland\u2019s AI growth zones and data infrastructure, AI\u2019s impact on creativity and society, AI consciousness, and the effects of AI on how we think and learn.<\/p>\n
Hosted by\u00a0innovation centre The Data Lab it will also be attended by Dex\u00a0Hunter-Torricke, who held senior communications\u00a0roles at SpaceX, Facebook, Google, and Google DeepMind before\u00a0leaving Big Tech to\u00a0found\u00a0The\u00a0Center\u00a0for Tomorrow<\/p>\n
Others include Colin Jarvis from OpenAI; Amanda Brock, CEO of\u00a0OpenUK; and Professor\u00a0Rachel Adams of the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence and the Global Centre on AI Governance<\/p>\n
Dr Julia\u00a0Stamm, founder of She Shapes AI, and\u00a0Matt Rooney, director of analytics at Skyscanner are also in the line-up of speakers, along with Theo Blackwell, chief digital officer at the Mayor of London\u2019s\u00a0Office.<\/p>\n
Paul McMillan, community and events programme manager at The Data Lab, said: \u201cThe 2026 programme is truly exciting as it not only highlights the incredible capabilities of technology but also dives into important questions about governance, trust, and the long-term benefits of AI.<\/p>\n
