As someone who has run (read jogged\/walked\/crawled) multiple marathons and half-marathons, I can personally attest to the importance of proper running shoes. To be clear, I’m not just talking about their importance to seasoned runners. There may be no better style of shoe to wear daily than a proper high-end running shoe. To that end, I’ve always been a fan of Brooks for this reason. I’ve owned Brooks shoes in the past, and I’m sure I will again in the future. The brand makes some of the best all-purpose footwear I’ve ever owned, which is why I was thrilled to see a great deal on a pair of its most popular sneakers at REI.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Anyone who has worn Brooks running shoes knows that their inherent comfort should go without saying. Nevertheless, I’m going to say it. Thanks to the Brooks nitrogen-infused DNA Flash foam midsoles in these sneakers, they’ll likely be some of the most comfortable shoes you’ll ever own. The foam is exceptionally lightweight, responsive, and offers the perfect amount of support. In my experience, some athletic or casual shoes can be too soft and squishy, while others feel hard as a rock. Because these were specifically engineered for runners, they’re all about finding that ideal sweet spot between the two extremes.<\/p>\n
The midsoles aren’t the only light-as-air thing about these kicks. The breathable mesh upper is thin yet durable. It has just enough rigidity to maintain its shape, but form-fitting enough to conform to your foot while you’re wearing it. It also allows for maximum airflow, which is something that I put a premium on during long-distance race days. The plush soft tongue allows for the laces to feed through its center, keeping it in place and out of the way when slipping your foot in. The tongue also offers a nice cushion that keeps the laces from digging into the top of your foot.<\/p>\n
Even the bottom of the shoes have things about which to brag. The Roadtack rubber outsoles deliver amazing grip, even on damp surfaces. They’re made from recycled material, which means not only are they effective, but they’re good for the environment. The rubber has the added benefit for serious runners of providing maximum forward turnover. The shoes are available in five colorways, and men’s sizes 7 through 15. According to multiple reviewers, the fit is slightly small, so it’s recommended that you purchase one half-size up.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Aside from the aforementioned sizing issue, buyers were thrilled with the shoes. One buyer, who is in their 80s, called them a “great choice,” praising their “adequate support” and claiming, “In the future, this will be the shoe that I purchase. Great shoe for working out in the gym.”<\/p>\n
