{"id":5028,"date":"2026-04-28T20:53:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-28T20:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stock999.top\/?p=5028"},"modified":"2026-04-28T20:53:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T20:53:17","slug":"miliband-accused-of-dishonest-post-on-bp-profits-daily-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stock999.top\/?p=5028","title":{"rendered":"Miliband accused of dishonest post on BP profits \u2013 Daily Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <\/p>\n<p>Ed Miliband: deleted post<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Business leaders in the northeast have criticised Energy Secretary Ed Miliband for posting a social media message criticising BP\u2019s profits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In a now deleted post on X (formerly Twitter) Mr Miliband accused BP of cashing in on the oil price rise caused by the Iran war. BP\u2019s first quarter profit came in at more than double the corresponding period last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Mr Miliband said that \u201cprofiting from a crisis is morally economically wrong. That\u2019s why we\u2019re taxing these windfall profits to help fund support with the cost of living. And why the Tories, Reform and the SNP are utterly wrong to oppose the windfall tax.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Aberdeen &amp; Grampian Chamber of Commerce said the post was a \u201cdeliberately dishonest narrative\u201d that failed to recognise that most of BP\u2019s first quarter profits derived from earnings before the war and only a small proportion was from the North Sea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The chamber said a headline 78% tax rate was \u201cstymying a \u00a317.5 billion investment pipeline and costing industry jobs in their thousands\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Industry has advocated for the immediate move from the Energy Profits Levy to the government\u2019s own preferred permanent windfall tax, the Oil and Gas Price Mechanism \u2013 which it regards as far more responsive to current price conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Chamber chief executive Russell Borthwick said:\u00a0\u201cEnergy companies pay their taxes where due on the profits they make.
