Postbank-related transactions and support services will no longer be available at any South African Post Office (Sapo) branch, following the expiry of the service level agreement between Sapo and Postbank on 31 March 2026.<\/p>\n
Postbank has opted against a new agreement with the Post Office. This means customers banked with Postbank will no longer be able to access cash deposit, withdrawal and related services at Sapo branches from 1 May 2026.<\/p>\n
Sapo\u2019s business rescue practitioners confirmed the transition in a notice to customers on Thursday.<\/p>\n
As part of the new arrangement, Postbank customers will be able to deposit and withdraw cash through Standard Bank and participating retailers nationwide.<\/p>\n

Cash deposits can be made at Standard Bank branches and ATMs, subject to the bank\u2019s transaction limits and fees. Withdrawals will be available at Standard Bank ATMs as well as retail stores using a cardless solution.<\/p>\n
Social grant beneficiaries will be able to access to their payments through retailers and Standard Bank ATMs.<\/p>\n
\u201cImportantly, this change does not affect social grant beneficiaries in any way. All South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grant recipients will continue to receive their grants as usual through existing channels, including retail partners and Standard Bank ATMs. There are no changes to how grants are paid, accessed or managed through Postbank,\u201d Postbank said in a statement.<\/p>\n

It says the move forms part of a broader strategy to improve customer experience and expand access to modern, community-based banking services.<\/p>\n
It also marks the final phase of the bank\u2019s multi-year transition away from Sapo branches, following the migration of social grant payments completed in March 2023. This includes a R500 million investment over the past three years in upgrading technology and infrastructure to ensure customers have access to better, more reliable banking services.<\/p>\n
