Set to take place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre from 11-14 May, the event is positioned as a critical driver for the continent\u2019s tourism economy.<\/p>\n<p>The trade show was officially launched on 4 May at the Nelson Mandela Cruise Terminal by a high-level delegation including Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille, MEC for Economic Development Musa Zondi, and eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba.<\/p>\n<p>A powerful economic lever<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s event carries the theme \u2018Unlimited Africa: Growing Africa\u2019s tourism economy\u2019. There are more than 700 confirmed buyers already registered, and the platform has confirmed 600 exhibiting companies, including representation from all nine South African provinces.<\/p>\n<p>Read:<br \/>SA Tourism needs stability, not political interference<br \/>Backlash over De Lille\u2019s decision to dissolve SA Tourism board<\/p>\n<p>A total of 22 African countries are participating in the trade show, which includes 191 independent micro, small, and medium enterprises. Furthermore, there will be 840 hosted and non-hosted buyers from applications across 71 countries, with 3 315 confirmed meetings taking place during the event.<\/p>\n<p>Zondi noted that the current buyer composition already demonstrates \u201cstrong value for the province and the City\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Durban: \u2018A destination of choice\u2019<\/p>\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/p>\n<p>CONTINUE READING BELOW<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Cyril Xaba reaffirmed that Durban\u2019s infrastructure and strategic location make it the ideal host for an event of this scale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe City\u2019s strategic location, well-developed infrastructure, and warm climate continue to position Durban as a destination of choice, whether for business or leisure,\u201d Mayor Xaba stated during the launch.<\/p>\n<p>The city expects a substantial economic boost from the influx of visitors, which will drive spending across the hospitality, transport, and retail sectors.
