As the war set off by the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran at the end of February shows no signs of winding down and fresh strikes target infrastructure, airlines that initially hoped to resume flights to Middle Eastern hubs like Dubai and Doha are pushing back the restart further into 2026.<\/p>\n
British Airways recently put out an announcement confirming that its route between London Heathrow and Abu Dhabi will not restart “until later this year” while carriers such as Lufthansa and KLM are not running their usual routes to cities such as Amman, Oman and Riyadh until at least October. <\/p>\n
With many travelers also canceling travel to the region over the ongoing security risk, this comes on top of the crisis around jet fuel prices and airlines cutting routes that do not bring in enough passengers.<\/p>\n
Aegean Airlines cancels Dubai flights until September 2026<\/p>\n
Aegean Airlines, the flag carrier of Greece, has now also announced that it will suspend all of its flights to Dubai International (DXB) until August 31. With Greece serving as the main European link to the Middle East due to its proximity, Aegean had been running several popular routes to the city both from Athens and Greek cities such as Thessaloniki and Rhodes for decades.<\/p>\n
Without issuing a full statement, the carrier confirmed to several local outlets that it will not be resuming any of its Dubai routes until September 2026. The current restart date for the Athens route is currently set to Aug. 31.<\/p>\n

“Aegean informs all passengers, that due to the ongoing developments in the Middle East, is cancelling additional flights to and from the airports of Israel, Iraq, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia,” the airline said in a statement in March 2026 when it hoped that the cancelations would last only several weeks.<\/p>\n
Between the strike at the end of February and different ebbs in the war that it set off, Aegean attempted to restart service to Dubai several times throughout the spring before ultimately having to pull it back again.<\/p>\n
How to request a refund on a flight to Dubai<\/p>\n
Those who have already booked their travel on the canceled routes are able to either request a full refund or rebook on the same route at a later date without the usual restrictions on changes assigned to fare class. The last day to make that decision is July 31.<\/p>\n
Aegean is among a large number of major carriers pushing back the restart date of their routes to both Dubai and other destinations in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

A low-cost airline based in T\u00fcrkiye that often competes with Aegean on many Middle Eastern routes, Pegasus Airlines has also suspended its service into Dubai until at least June 1.<\/p>\n
“Due to the restrictions on Middle Eastern airspace and recent developments […], additional rights have been granted to our guests holding tickets on our flights to\/from Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia (Riyadh and Dammam), and Bahrain,” Pegasus Airlines said in its most recent statement.<\/p>\n
Other airlines to either cancel restarted service or further push back a restart date set before include Air Canada, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines and Royal Air Maroc.<\/p>\n
