JPMorgan Chase has been in New York City since 1799. Back then, it was known as the Manhattan Company, and its mission was to provide clean water to the city during an outbreak of yellow fever. 270 Park Avenue \u201creimagines the workplace\u201d for JPM\u2019s employees because its digital footprint is as important as its physical infrastructure, with thousands of connected sensors and smart systems that make operations and collaboration both optimized and efficient.<\/p>\n
For instance, workers can use a dedicated mobile app to navigate the building, book meeting rooms, and even order meals and coffee. HVAC systems deliver double the amount of fresh air, while advanced windows let in 30% more daylight, along with \u201ccircadian lighting\u201d designed for wellness. Each floor is about twice the average height, making the 60-story tower more comparable in size to a 100-story building.<\/p>\n

Ten thousand JPM employees currently work at 270 Park Avenue, representing some of the firm’s most important functions, including its investment banking, markets and trading, technology, and wealth management divisions, as well as its executive leadership team.<\/p>\n
The project also added 8,000 new construction jobs and generated $2.6 billion worth of economic activity for New York City, according to JPM statements.<\/p>\n

As the global headquarters of a private company, 270 Park Avenue is not open to the public. <\/p>\n
However, due to its location just north of Grand Central Station, it is uniquely situated on top of the city\u2019s underground rail lines,\u00a0spurring some very creative design decisions. For example, the building is actually suspended 80 feet off the ground by a fan-shaped network of steel columns and bracing, which affords it twice as much outdoor public space as its previous building.<\/p>\n
This is something JPM’s designers took full advantage of when planning its street-level plaza, which is open and accessible to the public.<\/p>\n
