President Donald Trump\u00a0is planning to get an up-close look at the hottest team in basketball.<\/p>\n

Trump told reporters on Wednesday that\u00a0New York Knicks\u00a0owner James Dolan has invited him to the NBA Finals, when the Eastern Conference champion Knicks host either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs next month at Madison Square Garden.<\/p>\n

New York, which is riding an 11-game postseason winning streak after\u00a0sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers\u00a0in the conference finals, is scheduled to host Game 3 on June 8 and Game 4 on June 10.<\/p>\n

Trump, a New York native, said he initially planned to attend Game 5 of the conference finals at MSG before the Knicks finished off the Cavaliers in four games. The president called Dolan a \u201cgreat guy\u201d and marveled at New York\u2019s run.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoy, what a team,\u201d Trump said. \u201cThey have some really great players.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump called the club\u2019s return to the finals for the first time since 1999 \u201cgreat to see.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Knicks have really suffered for years,\u201d Trump said to laughter. \u201cThey\u2019re doing (well) right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump has routinely dropped in on prominent sporting events during his time in politics. He\u2019s taken in the\u00a0College Football Playoff championship\u00a0and caught a prime-time NFL game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets\u00a0just days before the 2024 election.<\/p>\n

The Knicks have a history of having high-profile celebrities sit courtside at MSG, including\u00a0filmmaker Spike Lee,\u00a0who has clashed with Trump\u00a0in the past.<\/p>\n
