A small Swedish semiconductor firm that\u2019s soared about 1,700% this year has become one of the country\u2019s most-shorted stocks.<\/p>\n
Traders have piled into tiny companies like Sivers Semiconductors AB as part of the frenzy for companies that are building artificial intelligence infrastructure like optical components that can transmit data. The firm, which has a market value of 23.5 billion kronor ($2.5 billion) after its surge, makes optical components that can transmit data.<\/p>\n
But now, skepticism is growing around the stock\u2019s rapid rise, says Calle Soderberg, an investment economist at Nordnet AB. About 17% of Sivers shares that are available for trading are out on loan, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence as of May 26. That\u2019s up from around 1.6% at the start of March.<\/p>\n

The recent rally has set Sivers up for inclusion in equity benchmarks, with Nasdaq saying it will be added to the OMX Stockholm Benchmark Index on June 1 and MSCI. tapping it for a small-cap gauge. Still, the stock has little analyst coverage among established brokers, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.<\/p>\n
A representative for Sivers didn\u2019t respond to emails from Bloomberg News seeking comment. Investors will be looking for evidence of whether the rally can continue when the company reports its latest earnings on Friday.<\/p>\n
