Wordsmith AI, the Edinburgh-based legaltech start-up, has raised $70 million (\u00a352m) following a series of client wins.<\/p>\n
The Series B funding comes from growth-stage investment firm headquartered in London Highland Europe and Index Ventures among others.<\/p>\n
It comes alongside an expansion of Wordsmith\u2019s product and new enterprise customer wins, including Sage and Starling. <\/p>\n
The company has enjoyed a year of rapid growth which has seen its AI platform used by more than 500 companies, including BT, Financial Times, Safelite, Trip.com, and Canva.<\/p>\n
Wordsmith\u2019s momentum reflects the pace at which legal teams are rethinking how work gets done. It will use the funding to expand its payroll to 300 globally by the end of the year, double down on the US market, and support growing demand from corporate legal departments.<\/p>\n
\u201cLegal does not need another filing cabinet, and it does not need another copilot that simply helps one lawyer work faster,\u201d said Ross McNairn, CEO and co-founder of Wordsmith.<\/p>\n

Wordsmith was founded by McNairn, CTO Volodymyr Giginiak, and COO Robbie Falkenthal. McNairn is a former lawyer turned technology executive who helped scale Perk from $1m to $200m in annual recurring revenue and previously held senior roles at Skyscanner.<\/p>\n
