Tiger Brands renews and expands Transnova logistics partnership
2 min readJSE-listed consumer goods manufacturer, Tiger Brands, has reappointed and expanded its logistics partnership with supply chain firm Transnova following a competitive open tender process concluded in June 2026.
The decision consolidates Transnova’s role as lead logistics partner overseeing and optimising Tiger Brands’ national distribution network.
The operation moves approximately two million tons of finished goods annually to more than 4 000 customers across 190 000 delivery locations nationwide.
The formal request for proposals was issued earlier this year in accordance with governance requirements for JSE-listed companies to subject material contracts to open competition.
Transnova, which has partnered with the food producer since 2016, retained the contract and secured an expanded scope as lead logistics partner after undergoing competitive evaluation.

The expanded mandate coincides with a broader portfolio reset executed under Tiger Brands CEO Tjaart Kruger, as the group divests non-core assets to focus on higher-margin growth categories.
In June 2026, Tiger Brands confirmed the disposal of portions of its legacy Beacon chocolate business, retaining only selected snack brands aligned with its long-term strategy.
The group has also completed the sale of its Randfontein operations and previously exited its equity stake in Chilean food group Carozzi.

Alongside the portfolio adjustments, Tiger Brands reported positive financial results for the first half of FY26:
Operating income: Increased 26.1% to R2.1 billion, driven by margin improvements and cost-saving programmes.
Volume performance: Volume growth of 4.5% offset price deflation across categories.
Capital returns: Returned R9.2 billion to shareholders via special dividends and share buybacks since FY24.
Against this backdrop of capital allocation and cost containment, the expansion of the logistics contract reflects the group’s ongoing focus on bottomline efficiencies.

The partnership originally began in 2016 when Tiger Brands appointed Transnova to establish a centralised logistics control tower integrated with a transportation management system and business intelligence analytics.
The structural shift moved Tiger Brands away from a single third-party logistics provider model, which had introduced operational rigidity and elevated transport costs, to a multi-carrier network comprising over 60 contracted carriers with real-time visibility.
According to group metrics, the decade-long collaboration has delivered documented operational outcomes:
Cumulative savings: Over R300 million generated in transport and network efficiency savings.
Disbursement oversight: Management of more than R900 million in annual transport disbursements.
Execution scale: Delivery of over 605 000 loads to more than 190 000 delivery locations.
The operational transformation received industry recognition in 2025, winning a Gold Award at the Logistics Achiever Awards and an Outstanding Achievement award at the Supply Chain Excellence Awards.
