Ebola cases near 3 000 in Congo
1 min readEbola infections surged to almost 3 000 confirmed cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo with more than 1 250 deaths, after health authorities reconciled provincial and national databases while reporting dozens of new cases in the virus’s epicenter.
The National Institute of Public Health recorded 2 905 confirmed cases and 1 269 deaths as of July 22, up from 2 536 cases and 1 033 deaths a day earlier.
Officials cautioned that the sharp increase primarily reflects the integration of harmonised epidemiological databases from Ituri and North Kivu provinces, rather than only infections and deaths recorded during the previous 24 hours.
Even so, the report logged 97 newly confirmed cases, 62 confirmed deaths and 13 recoveries over the latest reporting period.
