Airlink adds Cape Town-Lanseria route

Airlink has announced that it will launch twice-daily flights between Cape Town and Lanseria International Airport in Gauteng from 4 December, giving travellers between the two regions an alternative to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

The move expands Airlink’s domestic network beyond its existing operations through OR Tambo and gives it a presence at Lanseria for the first time.

An Embraer E190 aircraft with a capacity of 98 passengers will be used. Airlink has confirmed that the aircraft has only window and aisle seats, with no middle seats.

Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht says: “Travel options on this route have been limited, and our intention is to give passengers a comfortable and enjoyable alternative for travelling between the two regions, while also complementing our existing services to OR Tambo.”

The service is aimed at passengers travelling to and from Johannesburg, particularly those seeking to avoid congestion at OR Tambo.

It will also cater to communities and businesses on the western side of Gauteng and in North West province.

The airline plans to increase the route’s frequency to four daily return flights from 22 March 2027, with an updated schedule to be released closer to the date.

The increased frequency planned for next year could further broaden the route’s utility for regional travel between the country’s two economic centres.
