Lindt’s CEO exits as chocolate firm grapples with weak demand
1 min readLindt’s Chief Executive Officer Adalbert Lechner will leave the company with immediate effect, less than a month after the confectionery maker cut its guidance for a second time this year.
Lechner led the Swiss firm since 2022 and has been at the helm during one of Lindt’s most challenging times. It’s been grappling with record-high cocoa costs, higher price sensitivity among consumers, and weak demand in some key markets.
Dieter Weisskopf, vice-chairman and former CEO, has been appointed interim chief, the company said Monday. Lindt expects to appoint a permanent successor in the second quarter of 2027.

“The board of directors has decided that the company needs new leadership for its next phase to deliver its full potential and to return to consistent strong growth,” Weisskopf said on a media call. “Trust is definitely a very important point that as well belongs to that change.”
Lindt cut its guidance for 2026 sales growth at the end of September and pledged to lower prices for its chocolate products amid weak demand especially in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. It had already lowered its outlook in March.
Weisskopf said it’s crucial for Lindt to win back consumers that are currently reluctant to buy.
Lindt also appointed a new CEO for Germany as part of its management changes.
