The investment marks a step towards establishing Omoda & Jaecoo in South Africa’s automotive manufacturing sector, beyond the sale of imported vehicles.
The value of the production investment, expected manufacturing volumes and the number of jobs the project could support have not been disclosed in the information provided.
The C4 will be offered in petrol, hybrid and fully electric versions in SA, giving the brand a range of powertrains to cater to different consumer preferences and charging requirements.
Gahagan added: “The C4 will give us a place in the country’s manufacturing industry.”
Initially unveiled as the C3, the crossover features what the company describes as Cyber Mecha styling, with angular bodywork, a sculpted side profile and distinctive lighting. Its interior includes a wraparound cockpit and connected technology.
Features showcased internationally include a 13.2-inch central display, a 540-degree panoramic camera system and 50W wireless charging.
