Grand Canyon hotel files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

3 min read

Grand Canyon National Park tourists have faced some difficult circumstances that have prevented them from visiting the park over the last two years dating back to the Dragon Bravo Fire on the North Rim that started from a lightning strike on July 4, 2025, and destroyed the Grand Canyon Lodge.

The Grand Canyon South Rim also endured a natural disaster that discouraged tourists from visiting after a flash flood on Aug. 29, 2026, damaged or destroyed portions of trails, bridges, utilities, and other infrastructure and caused loss of life.

The natural disasters that affected Grand Canyon National Park caused shutdowns and led to a decline in tourists staying in the area’s hotels, reducing revenues. Some hotel owners have filed for bankruptcy protection after the disasters to restructure debt.

The owners of the Grand Canyon Inn and Motel in Valle, Ariz., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to reorganize its business.

Grand Canyon Inn owner files bankruptcy

The owner of the 45-year-old Grand Canyon Inn and Motel in Valle, Ariz., which is about a 30-mile drive from the national park’s South Rim, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Oct. 29 seeking to reorganize its business.

Grand Canyon Hospitality LLC, which owns the 101-room Grand Canyon Inn and seven other hotels across the country, filed its petition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Arizona, listing $1 million to $10 million in assets and debts, according to PacerMonitor.

The debtor also owns Scenic Inn in Moab, Utah; Sleep Inn, Atlanta Airport; Grand Junction Motel 6 in Grand Junction, Colo.; Antelope Inn, Page, Ariz.; Quality Inn, Page, Ariz.; Ramada Inn, Grand Junction, Colo.; and Budget Motel, Barstow, Calif., according to its website.

The Williams, Ariz., debtor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Flintstones Bedrock City neighbors

Grand Canyon Inn is located across State Highway 64 from Flintstones Bedrock City theme park in Williams, which opened in 1972, and is now a part of Raptors Ranch conservation park. The hotel was built in 1981, consisting of 33 rooms and expanded over the years adding 68 rooms in two wings and a swimming pool.

Amenities also include a restaurant and bar, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner served daily. The hotel has an average daily room rate of $134, according to LoopNet. Grand Canyon Inn & Motel is open and making reservations for rooms, which are also available from online booking services, such as Expedia.

Owners seek a sale of the hotel

Grand Canyon Inn and Motel was listed for sale on LoopNet beginning on July 14, 2026, for an asking price of $7.95 million.

Grand Canyon Hospitality won approval from the Coconino County (Ariz.) Board of Supervisors in March 2025 for a rezoning and conditional use permit for a land parcel adjacent to the Grand Canyon Inn and Motel to allow the redevelopment of another of its properties, the 28-unit Grand Canyon Motel that’s located next to the Valle Airport.

The Grand Canyon Motel opened in 1978 with 13 rooms, travel trailer space rentals, and a grocery store. The motel was expanded to 28 rooms in 1985, and by the early 1990s, all uses except for the motel were abandoned, according to the Arizona Daily Sun.

Plan to remodel neighboring motel

With the rezoning and conditional use permit, the owner planned to remodel the motel and convert a storage building to five units and develop a 50-unit recreation vehicle park.

The status of Grand Canyon Hospitality’s motel remodeling and RV park development plan is uncertain as the bankruptcy case proceeds.
