Welcome to The Property Pod, South Africa’s leading property investor podcast right here on Moneyweb, now available as a vodcast on our YouTube channel dubbed ‘MoneywebTV’.
On this weekly show we gain insider insights from leading CEOs, executives, analysts and developers in South Africa’s dynamic real estate sector.
Today marks a milestone – our 200th episode. We have an entrepreneur of sorts and a leading player in the SA property and hospitality scene on this special edition. He is Murray Collins, the CEO of Syncerus Holdings.
Syncerus has a subsidiary that has a more popular name, Collins Residential, which has a number of developments in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), particularly on the North Coast. These include the R2 billion Club Med SA resort development that is opening later this year at Tinley Manor, in addition to estates such as Zululami and Seaton.

Syncerus is the new holding company linked to various investments of the Collins family, excluding the JSE-listed Collins Property Group, which is chaired by Murray’s brother, Ken Collins.
We had Murray on the podcast back in 2021. That was a long time ago, and a lot has changed in KZN since then. In 2023, Collins Residential confirmed it would be leading the Club Med development, with financial backing from Absa, African Bank and the Industrial Development Corporation.
Both the Zululami and Seaton estates on the North Coast have seen billions of rand in investment over the past eight years, including the Coral Cove project by Auria Senior Living, which was bought by Growthpoint Property Partners last year.
But more developments are on the cards for Seaton, with R110 million being invested in a new private school (Seaton House), and a more than 200 000m² ‘Seaton Commercial Precinct’ being planned.

Syncerus and Collins Residential also have a partnership with Royal Shaka Property Group, linked to KZN sugar baron Patrick Sokhela. The group has extensive tracts of land on the upper North Coast.
