A £480 million plan has been unveiled to develop “one of the most significant hospitality investments in Scotland in recent years”.

A hotel and golf resort is proposed on 310 acres at Shank of Omachie near the Carnoustie in Angus.

“Brae of Angus” promises to be a world-class destination that will include a 150-bed Hyatt-branded luxury hotel – the first five star hotel in Angus. There will be luxury lodges, townhouse suites, and corporate lodges.

The site was recently purchased by Angus Land Company, owned by the private investment company Mocca Capital. It is working with Castle Properties, an international developer with a history of delivering similar mixed-use projects.

It is intended that Hyatt will operate the hotel and facilities with IMG managing the golf business, events and wider leisure offerings.

An 18-hole championship golf course, designed by Scottish designer Graham Webster of Team Niblick, is retained. A state-of-the-art modern golf academy and training facility, including driving ranges and simulation programmes, aims to set a new benchmark for golf performance and training.

Other facilities include a golf club, country club, modern spa as well as an area for large events and functions such as food and drink weekends, music events, and product launches,.

A key to the success of the project is an area for 185 housing plots, with the proceeds from the sales reinvested in the tourist-focused elements, including the hotel, golf, and broader resort development.
