Right of reply: SAA affirms confidence in new acting GCEO Matshela Seshibe

South African Airways (SAA) notes recent media reports referencing historic allegations relating to its acting Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Matshela Seshibe.

The matter in question originates from Mr Seshibe’s previous tenure outside of SAA and was subject to due process at the time. It was fully considered and conclusively resolved, with the allegations found to be without merit.

SAA is concerned by the continued recycling of unsubstantiated claims that have already been addressed. Such reporting risks creating a misleading narrative that does not reflect the factual outcome of the matter.

The board of SAA conducted the necessary governance and due diligence processes prior to confirming Mr Seshibe’s appointment as acting GCEO. The board remains confident in his leadership, integrity, and ability to guide the organisation through its next
phase.

Mr Seshibe is an experienced business executive with over thirty years’ experience in business leadership roles in global companies. He joined SAA as group executive committee (Exco) member and CEO of Air Chefs in 2024.

In parallel with his responsibilities as CEO of Air Chefs, Mr Seshibe gained airline industry exposure through his active participation in the SAA group Exco, leading group projects, participating in strategy formulation and execution, and broad involvement with various stakeholders and governance structures in the company, including the SAA group board.

He has gained insights into airline governance, enterprise-wide decision making, and the strategic and operational complexities within the company.

SAA will remain focused on executing its recovery and growth strategy, ensuring operational stability, and delivering value to its customers, partners, and stakeholders.
