Beano print deal marks milestone for Dundee – Daily Business

Beano has been published for 88 years
Beano, the world’s longest-running weekly comic, will be produced fully in-house for the first time in more than 16 years.
Printing will switch at DC Thomson’s plant at Kingsway in Dundee, marking the company’s long‑term commitment to the title.
To support the production of Beano, the company has invested in a sheetfed printing press, a new piece of technology currently en route from Venice.
Gillian Troup, chief operations officer, said: “There’s a real sense of pride in printing such an iconic title at Kingsway again, and it is a great reflection of the people behind it.”
Paper for Beano will be supplied by UPM Caledonian in North Ayrshire.
Gareth Whelan, Beano’s Publisher, said: “Bringing Beano’s print operations back to Dundee is a significant moment for us.
“This is where the comic started 88 years ago, and it’s still something that kids look forward to every week, just as generations have before them.
“Producing it end-to-end in one place means we can respond more quickly to what kids are enjoying and keep exploring new formats to bring Beano to life alongside the weekly comic.”
