Reform UK says it will locate migrant detention centres in Green party constituencies and council areas as it shifts the focus of its campaign from Labour to the left wing activists.
Nigel Farage’s party will prioritise setting up immigration removal centres in parts of the country controlled by the Greens because of the party’s support for open borders.
Reform UK Scotland is also promising that no migrants will be housed in any constituency it controls but will put them in parliamentary constituencies with Green Party MSPs.
The Green Party is contesting six constituencies in Thursday’s election, including Edinburgh Central which Lorna Slater hopes to snatch from the SNP’s Angus Robertston.
Reform UK’s Thomas Kerr said: “This is now Scotland’s choice.”
In a statement, the party said: “Put simply, if you vote in a Reform council or Reform MP or constituency MSP, we guarantee you won’t have a detention centre near you. However, if you vote Green, there’s a good chance you will.
“There is a very real risk that [SNP leader] John Swinney could be re-elected as First Minister and his entire government hinges on the votes of extremists in the Scottish Greens.”
Mr Kerr added: “Ross Greer [Scottish Green party co-leader] and his army of crackpots’ pursuit of open borders, which would allow swathes of foreign criminals to enter Scotland unchecked, is not only economically reckless but a danger to national security.
“But, let’s not kid ourselves, John Swinney’s entire future hinges on these extremists, so Scotland needs to know what [it is] getting.
“If the Greens are so keen to welcome these people then they can take responsibility and put them up in their own constituencies.
“The choice is clear: Vote Green, get illegals.”
Reform states that “many people in Britain do not want unvetted fighting age males placed near their communities, regardless of whether they are securely detained while they await deportation (as would be the case under Reform) or free to roam (as they have been under Tory and Labour governments).
“Despite this, the Green Party advocates for open borders and has declared they would welcome an infinite number of undocumented migrants.”
Greens rail boost
The Scottish Greens have announced plans to introduce a new Green Commuter Railcard. Costing £35 a year, it will save cardholders one third on all of their journeys.
It would be modelled on the existing Network Railcard in the South East of England, which is designed to encourage regular travellers to take the train rather than drive and which saves average cardholders £154 a year.
Reform loses candidate
Reform UK has seen another of its candidates withdraw just days before voters go to the polls.
Dr Tim Kelly, the party’s choice for East Kilbride and Strathaven, said he no longer believed Nigel Farage and Malcolm Offord offered a route forward for Scotland.
He becomes the ninth Reform UK candidate to either quit or be dumped by the party during the Holyrood campaign.
In his resignation letter, seen by The Scottish Sun, he said: “I’ve decided to leave Reform UK and continue my campaign in East Kilbride as an Independent.”
Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie said: “Once again, Reform’s campaign in Scotland has descended into an utter farce, proving that they are simply not competent to challenge the SNP.
“When even their own candidates do not believe in Nigel Farage and Lord Offord, why should the people of Scotland?”
