New images have been released alongside a planning application to regenerate Glasgow’s neglected Chinatown area.

Keltbray Chinatown Developments – the joint venture between Keltbray Developments and the owner of Glasgow Chinatown – announced the £160 million plan last November.

The Chinatown complex opened in 1992 as a hub for shopping and dining and the proposals aim to revive the 4.4-acre site on New City Road in line with the Cowcaddens District Regeneration Framework.

The scheme has been designed by Hawkins\Brown, with CBRE appointed as planning agent and includes spaces for events, markets and cultural celebrations.

Two public consultations attracted 127 attendees and feedback demonstrated strong support for the regeneration of the site.

Andrew Burnside, associate director at Keltbray Developments, said: “Submitting this planning application marks a major milestone in unlocking a truly transformative, once-in-a-generation opportunity for Glasgow.

Robin Lim of Glasgow Chinatown said: “Chinatown Glasgow has long been a vital cultural landmark for the city, and these proposals reflect a shared ambition to safeguard its future for generations to come.”

Alongside CBRE and Hawkins\Brown, the project team brings together significant regeneration, design and technical expertise, including SLR Consulting, Woolgar Hunter, Henderson Warnock and Hollis.

Keltbray Developments is a Glasgow-based property development company delivering projects across Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is a subsidiary of The Keltbray Group, a specialist engineering and construction services provider headquartered in London.
