To those preferring MetaTrader 5 as the trading tool, there are a lot of new updates that might be interesting and useful for you to develop trading strategies this year.

This year, MT5 has introduced a new UX-friendly design, faster features for faster tasks, and AI-assisted trading. For those interested in trading and who haven’t yet started with MetaTrader 5, click MetaTrader 5 download PC here, and continue reading to learn what’s new in this year’s package and how the updates make MT5 sustain the competition.

Meta Trader 5 Current Market Position

MT5, together with MT4, has long been known as a key online trading platform, yet newcomers with enhanced features, AI integration, and predictive analytics are starting to challenge it, prompting MetaQuotes to update its two key platforms.

While MT4 is generally considered as a favorite traditional tool for forex trading for seasoned traders and the newbies, Meta Quotes concentrated innovational efforts on Meta trader 5, thus working in two directions: keeping a conventional platform for the seasoned clientele, which considered it clear and good enough for effective forex trading (MT4), and updating a newer version with AI features and more powerful GPU-accelerated quantitative analysis (MT5).

In 2026, MetaTrader 5 (MT5) has surpassed MetaTrader 4 (MT4), accounting for 62% of the combined MetaQuotes retail CFD market share and becoming the market leader in retail CFD trading.

According to TradingView, MetaQuotes’ MetaTrader 4 and 5 still account for around 75% of global trading volume.

To maintain this position in the future and remain one of the world’s leading platforms, MetaTrader 5 has recently been updated with new features.

Recent MetaTrader 5 Updates

Most of the MT5 updates this year were part of the continued effort to make the platform faster, more secure, and more friendly to AI integrations. Among the updates released recently, the following drew the most attention:

ONNX acceleration upgrades

Open Neural Network Exchange (ONNX) is an open-source, standardized file format for representing machine learning models, enabling their export across platforms.

Meta Quotes has updated the MetaTrader 5 programming language (MQL5) to improve support for ONNX models, making it easier to integrate algorithmic trading into MT5.

Technically, this improvement includes faster ONNX execution on NVIDIA CUDA GPUs, improved GPU acceleration, and expanded compatibility with RTX 40/50 series and enterprise GPUs, which will, together, simplify the deployment of AI models in trading tools.

This is important, since more traders today rely on machine learning, predictive models, pattern recognition, and AI-generated market signals.

Better network and proxy stability

Build 5660 improved HTTP and SOCKS5 support while removing outdated SOCKS4 support.

For brokers and traders, this means several things. First, it allows traders to access trading servers from restricted environments (e.g., offices, public Wi-Fi, or regions with geographical restrictions). Also, SOCKS5 is protocol-agnostic, meaning it can handle any type of traffic (TCP/UDP), whereas HTTP is limited to web traffic. Another change is that using a SOCKS5 or HTTP proxy hides the user’s real IP address, protecting their identity from third parties.

Overall, these enhancements promise reduced latency, faster data handling, and a smoother experience when running complex strategies or multiple charts.

OpenBLAS integration redesign

The OpenBLAS integration redesign also promises smoother workflows. MetaQuotes reworked how OpenBLAS is handled, so it now comes with reduced disk usage, faster installations, and lower memory usage.

Advanced quantitative analysis tools

MT5 added new L1 trend filtering methods, improving the overall system’s output clarity. The new tools help identify turning points, detect trend changes, and analyze financial time series more efficiently. It also helps reduce market noise and focus on only those events that matter. Such algorithms allow MT5 to become a tool for quantum trading in the near future.

Institutional expansion through Ultency

Ultency is an ultra-low latency matching engine and liquidity aggregation solution designed specifically for MetaTrader 5 (MT5) brokers. As of 2026, this technology allows brokers to connect directly to over 30 liquidity providers. This number includes top-tier banks. With Ultency, institutions connect within the native MT5 environment, eliminating the need for external bridges and reducing infrastructure expenses.

Ultency enables high-speed order processing (latency as low as 0.1-0.26 ms), which is essential for institutional-grade trading.

For brokers,, it means no need for complex third-party middleware, streamlining the connection between institutional liquidity providers (such as LMAX Group or Scope Prime) and the MT5 platform.

With these enhancements, brokers can now use MT5 to meet the demands of hedge funds, family offices, and professional traders.

Summing up

While MetaTrader5 remains the market leader, it can lose market share to competitors offering better usability, modern charting, or specialized features. To keep up with competitors and provide better features to their customers, MT5 firmly stands on the innovation tracks, frequently offering updates and new features.
