JSE-listed sectional-title developer Balwin Properties made a big announcement last week – proposing to take the group private – with the backing of the Public Investment Corporation, or PIC.

It’s an interesting move and follows Balwin’s results released earlier this month. We are not speaking to Balwin’s founder, Steve Brookes – who has joined us on the podcast before and hopefully will again soon – but rather to a long-time follower of the stock.

He is a well-known small-cap market commentator and analyst, and someone I have been trying to get on the podcast for several years: Anthony Clark, founder and independent analyst at Small Talk Daily Research.

Clark shares his views on Balwin’s decision – whether it is a positive or negative development – and considers whether Calgro M3 could be next. He also discusses AdvTech, another company he covers in the private and tertiary education sector, which has a substantial property portfolio.
