Moneyweb – a leading destination for business, finance and investment news in South Africa – is looking to appoint a Senior Financial Journalist to join its dynamic editorial team. A wholly owned subsidiary of AME, Moneyweb produces independent, high-quality investment news across digital, audio, print, newsletters and events.

This is a senior-level position reporting to Moneyweb’s editors. The successful candidate must have a strong news sense, a proven ability to identify and develop compelling stories, an excellent work ethic, and the initiative to generate original content and ideas.

The key purpose of the role

We are looking for a journalist with a track record of outstanding business reporting and analysis.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the South African business environment and its global context, as well as a solid grasp of economics, investing, and JSE-listed companies.

Key responsibilities include:

Producing well-written, relevant, accurate and balanced business and investment news.
Identifying and developing exclusive stories and original content ideas.
Conducting interviews and building relationships with key industry stakeholders.
Analysing financial statements, company results and market developments.
Working across digital, audio and other multimedia platforms.
Managing multiple deadlines and assignments simultaneously.
Contributing to editorial planning and newsroom discussions.
Performing any other duties reasonably assigned by the editors.

Personal attributes

The ability to multitask, prioritise and pay very close attention to detail is vital.
Must be a team player and hard-working, with the ability to work independently.
Be able to work overtime when needed.

Minimum requirements

Relevant diploma or degree in finance, economics, journalism or a related field.
Five to seven years’ experience in financial journalism.
A strong understanding of the financial media sector.
Ability to read and analyse financial statements and other financial information.
Excellent communication, writing and editing skills.
Thorough understanding of the South African Press Code.
Strong news judgement and interviewing skills.
Ability to work independently and under pressure.
An existing network of industry contacts.
Willingness to work flexible hours when required.
Contactable references.

This is a multimedia journalism role that requires a proactive, strategic mindset. Podcasting and broadcast experience will be advantageous. The salary is negotiable. Applicants must have their own transport.
