“Ride Joburg is much more than a cycling race; it is an opportunity for Johannesburg to showcase its world-class facilities, infrastructure, and the energy of our people,” he says.
The change will see cyclists complete a 4.5km clockwise lap of the FIA Grade 2 motorsport circuit before crossing the finish line. The venue will also provide grandstand viewing opportunities and a contained environment for spectators.
Its move comes as the City of Johannesburg looks to use major sporting events to support tourism, business, and investment.
The 2026 edition will also see JP Nortje take over as race director from Fritz Pienaar, with a stated focus on building on the event’s existing foundation while broadening participation.
“I want to continue that legacy but also make Ride Joburg even more accessible and inclusive, so more people can experience the magic of riding through our city,” says Nortje.
