Kenya Airways and CemAir partner to boost regional connectivity

In a significant move to consolidate regional air travel, Kenya Airways and South Africa’s CemAir have officially entered into a new commercial partnership designed to enhance connectivity between East and Southern Africa.

The agreement, implemented through a Special Prorate Agreement (SPA), establishes interline-style cooperation that allows for more streamlined journey planning and ticketing across selected routes within both airlines’ extensive networks.

A foundation for seamless continental travel

The partnership is strategically positioned to leverage the respective regional strongholds of both carriers.

Kenya Airways, “The Pride of Africa”, operates as a primary gateway through its Nairobi hub, connecting 42 global destinations, 33 of which are within the continent.

CemAir brings to the table a robust domestic and regional network, covering 16 destinations from its bases in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Miles van der Molen, CEO of CemAir, highlighted the strategic nature of the deal, noting that basing the partnership in the regional economic hub of Kenya provides a “solid foundation for future growth and connectivity across the continent and beyond”.

Captain George Kamal, acting group managing director & CEO of Kenya Airways, stated that the move reflects a “continued commitment to connecting Africa’s people, cultures and markets”, while supporting regional prosperity.

This agreement is not intended to be a final step; both airlines have categorised it as the “first phase of a broader commercial relationship”.

Discussions regarding future areas of cooperation are expected to continue, pending operational and regulatory requirements. The SPA is now live, marking the immediate commencement of this integrated travel offering.
